GFA AIRWORTHINESS COURSE

Darling Downs Soaring Club (McCaffrey Field) 18 to 25 August 2018

Introduction

The Airworthiness Course at DDSC will run from 18 to 25 August 2018. This course is aimed at GFA members who wish to become GFA Airworthiness Inspectors.  The intention is to build on knowledge already gained and to confirm sufficient knowledge and skills to be accredited as either a Component Replacement or Form 2 Inspector.

To gain a Form 2 Inspector authorisation requires attendance at least one training course, with follow up work required by the use of a mentor training record, and/or attendance at a second course.

To satisfactorily complete this course participants must attend for the duration of the course, although credits may be given for interrupted attendance.

Course attendance does not automatically result in the grant of ratings.  Attitude and aptitude in both theory and practical aspects are required, and attendees will be continuously assessed in both.  There also will be a written exam. A diligent and consistent approach as well as previous experience in glider maintenance will assist in the achievement of an airworthiness rating.

It is unusual for a person with no or little prior airworthiness experience to achieve an Annual Inspector rating by completing the course. A Component Replacement rating may be issued to appropriately competent students.

You must be a current GFA member to be issued and to hold any GFA airworthiness rating.

Food preparation and meals:

The course is a full time 7-day event and all meals (breakfast, lunch, Dinner, morning and afternoon teas) are catered for onsite.

Special Dietary Needs:

Please advise if any special requirements and we will endeavour to accommodate.

Accommodation.

There is sufficient bunkhouse accommodation available at DDSC, and all meals will be catered.  There will be a charge to cover the cost of meals, accommodation and some materials and consumables needed for the practical parts of the course.  This has been kept as low as possible, Gliding Queensland is contributing $2000 to help keep costs down.

Accommodation is bunk house style typical of a medium size gliding club. Limited powered sites for campervan and tents are also available. Alternatively, motel accommodation is available in either Dalby or Oakey.

Course Fees

The instructors and staff are all volunteer’s however there are significant fixed cost associated with running this course. A total fee of $325 is requested which is inclusive of all on- airfield accommodation and catering for the duration. If staying in alternate accommodation a fee of $255 is required to cover course and catering costs.

Many clubs are very aware that they ultimately benefit from your hard work and qualifications in the future and have in the past partially sponsored many students towards the cost. Please organise any financial arrangements at your club level.

Payment should be made through the registration process below.
